Join the Apex Sailing Team

We’re building something exciting in Port Stanley, and we’re looking for passionate sailors who want to share the water with others. If you love sailing and love people, let’s talk.

Teach What You Love

Apex Sailing is a growing sailing school and experience company based out of Port Stanley, Ontario. We run beginner courses, private sailing experiences, and seasonal programs on Lake Erie — and we’re expanding.

We’re looking for certified instructors who are ready to get on the water, connect with students, and be part of a brand that’s genuinely excited about what it’s building.

No corporate nonsense. Just good sailing, great people, and a team that’s in it for the right reasons.

Why Join Apex Sailing?

  • Flexible Scheduling Work when it works for you. We build schedules around availability so you can teach without it taking over your life.
  • Access To The Boat Our instructors have access to the J24 outside of scheduled courses. Youll have the ability to take friends and family out sailing without the costs of buying, owning, and paying for the costs associated with having a sailboat.
  • Be Part of Something Growing We’re expanding our course offerings and reach every season. The instructors who come on early grow with the brand.
  • A Community Worth Joining We’re sailors first. There’s a genuine social side to being part of the Apex team.

What The Role Looks Like

As an Apex instructor, you’ll lead our Sailing Basics courses and assist with private sailing experiences out of Port Stanley. Courses are hands-on and beginner-focused. Your job is to make sailing feel approachable, fun, and genuinely memorable for people who’ve never done it before. You’ll work with small groups, keep things safe, and represent Apex on and off the dock.

Requirements

To instruct with Apex you’ll need the following certifications:

  • SVOP — Small Vessel Operator Proficiency
  • VHF Radio Operator Certificate
  • Standard First Aid + CPR

The SVOP course is a lifelong certification that does not require any recertification and allows you to operate as a commercial captain.

Scheduling

Work as much or as little as you want — and change it up week to week. If you’ve got a busy stretch coming up, pull back. If you want to stack sessions and maximize your time on the water, we’ll make it work. There’s no minimum commitment and no locked-in schedule. Life changes week to week and we get that — just let us know what you’re available for and we’ll build around it.

What You'll Be Teaching

Our season runs from June through September out of Port Stanley on Lake Erie. As an Apex instructor you’ll work across our full lineup of experiences:

Sailing Basics Course — Our flagship beginner program. Four sessions, three hours each, taught on a J/24 keelboat. Students come in with zero experience and leave with real confidence on the water. Classes are capped at three students per instructor to keep things personal and hands-on. Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Couples Sailing Adventure — A one-hour private sail for two. Relaxed, fun, and a big favourite. You guide them through the basics, let them take the helm, and make sure they have a great time. View times – Click Here

Family Sail — A two-hour private sail for families with kids. Up to two adults and two kids, or one adult with three kids. Kids get to steer and help with the sails — it’s interactive, memorable, and one of the most rewarding sessions to lead. View times – Click Here

Private Sunset Sail — A 1.5-hour evening sail, one booking per night. Perfect conditions, beautiful views, and an easy session to run. View times – Click Here

Private Sailing Lessons — Two-hour one-on-one sessions tailored to the student’s skill level. Great for people who want to go deeper than the basics course.

All sessions are run on a J/24 — the most popular keelboat class in the world and a genuinely fun boat to teach on.
